Website Comments Policy
Hello everyone -
At this writing (October 31, 2006), we're ready to open the site up to comments. In other words, you can post feedback that appears on the website.
For now, we're limiting comments to two places: 1) right here, where you can discuss the pros and cons of public (and anonymous) commenting, and the below policy; and 2) the "Roll Call" posts -- see the November edition here.
Comments Policy
We want website comments to make a positive contribution to the Island community. Thus we have put some limits in place.
All comments will be reviewed by a moderator before being posted.
Commenters will not be permitted to:
1) Use profane or abusive language, or be generally rude or disrespectful.
2) Identify an individual as having written an anonymous post.
3) Identify individuals who are not considered to be public figures.
4) Comment on the personal life of anyone.
5) Claim knowledge of an individual's or group's motives. References to motives are allowed only if they are clearly stated as personal opinion and supported by logical arguments.
6) Accuse individuals or groups of criminal or unethical behavior. Suggestions of criminal or unethical behavior are allowed only if they are clearly stated as personal opinion and supported by logical arguments.
People who break these limits may have commenting privileges revoked.
About Your Privacy
1) We have configured this website so that the vast majority of search engines will not index any page with comments. So, if you post your full name here, it won't appear in Google or Yahoo etc.
2) We won't identify commenters unless told to do so by a court.
More About Comments
1) You can post anonymously.
2) You can identify yourself only by your first name.
3) Not everyone who posts here is from Fishers Island.
4) The administrators of this board have no way of policing names.
5) We may revise these guidelines.
We welcome your feedback on any of the above, in theory and in practice.
Andrew Benkard and Meredith Harr.
