New Ferry Ticket Changes
Dear Ferry Patron,
On April 2, 2007 the Fishers Island Ferry District will change the way it does business. For a couple of years now, we have been planning to sell tickets ashore rather than on the boats. Tickets will be collected before passengers and vehicles board the vessel, a process which complies with Coast Guard regulations and Homeland Security guidelines.
While investigating the "on shore" concept, the Board discovered that some ferry systems around the country sell tickets round trip only. The customer pays double fare going to the Island and then returns without the need for ticketing. After multiple, lengthy discussions, exploring every possible scenario, the round trip option will be the chosen format.
In addition, as a result of seemingly unfair charges to seniors and a continuing problem with non-driver cars, it has been decided to change the car and driver ticket to auto only. The driver, along with all the other passengers must now purchase separate passenger tickets.
CHANGES TO BE EXPECTED
NEW LONDON
Tickets will be taken at the ramp before autos and passengers board the vessels.
Tickets may be purchased at the lobby ticket counter or at the kiosk in the Terminal Building.
Tickets from commuter books will now be accepted at the ramp.
All reservations, internet and regular, must be exchanged for tickets in the Terminal.
All fares are round trip, no one way fares allowed.
FISHERS ISLAND
No ticketing necessary for passengers and vehicles leaving Fishers Island.
Return reservations may be made at FI reservation office for reservation fee only.
Unattended vehicles must have pre-paid NO DRIVER ticket, or they will remain on island.
Kiosk in waiting room will provide NO DRIVER ticket plus other ticket options.
TICKET BOOKS
Ticket books will be sold in 3 categories: Auto, Passenger and Senior/Child.
Tickets are for round trip only, twice the one way fare and may be turned in on the ramp.
Special "Year Round" books will be available with the showing of resident ID.
Auto and Passenger Books reflect a 10% savings, Senior/Child and Year Round do not.
Resident ID must be shown whenever special ticket or special reservation is used.
Proof of age may be required for the purchase of child/senior tickets books.
RESERVATION SALES—INTERNET AND REGULAR
Customer chooses date to sail, pays round trip fare and may reserve to return, if known.
If return trip is unknown, customer pays round trip fare and one reservation fee.
Return reservations may be made at FI reservation office for reservation fee only.
Customer may purchase auto, passenger and senior/child tickets on line.
All internet and regular reservations must be exchanged for tickets in the NL Terminal.
A special "year round" internet access is being developed and will be in place by summer.
