Bike Path Survey

Dear All,

We’ve recently received from FIDCO the bikers/joggers/walkers traffic collected at the gatehouse for July of 2008, which was also reported at our open forum on August 10th. There were 1,177 bikers and 667 walkers/joggers. This represents an increase of 118% from July of 2006 and does not include traffic within the confines of the East End, where one does not have to pass the gatehouse. Most of this traffic happens on weekends, so one could extrapolate and say that there is somewhere between 150-200 bikers/pedestrians using the East End road on weekend days in July. At the same time in July, commercial and private vehicle traffic has remained the same at around 28,000, a quarter of which is commercial. Clearly there’s a lot of competition for space on the 19 foot East End road between vehicles and bikers, joggers and walkers. The path will offer a safe alternative to the road for bikers, joggers and walkers and should fulfill its objective of being a new safe recreational outlet for the island. To help us forecast demand for the path could you please respond to the following question?

1.) Will you or members of your household as well as your guests use the Recreation Path for:

a.) jogging

b.) walking

c.) cycling

d.) never or very infrequently

Your Answer(multiple answers if appropriate):
